The Men's Anti-Violence Partnership of Southern Arizona raised $100,000 through its Partnership Awards Gala on November 5 at the Westin La Paloma Resort.
The benefit for the Southern Arizona Center Against Sexual Assault honored people and organizations that have helped prevent violence against women and girls.
Awards were given to Kathleen Robinson, assistant chief of the Tucson Police Department; Mike Bolchalk, president of Bolchalk FReY Marketing; Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona; the Men's Anti-Violence Network, the Phoenix-based model for the Men's Anti-Violence Partnership; Michelle Dorsey of the University of Arizona Oasis Program for Sexual Assault and Relationship Violence; and Jason Thorpe, director of community education and outreach at Open Inn.
Mary Koss, UA Regents Professor of public health, and Channing Frye, UA alumnus and basketball player for the New York Knicks, were honored as well but were not able to attend. Karen Frye accepted the award on behalf of her son.
The Woman of the Year Award went to UA women's basketball coach Joan Bonvicini, while the Man of the Year Award was given to Richard Elías, chairman of the Pima County Board of Supervisors.
Bolchalk was honored as Outstanding Media Professional for his leadership in changing public attitudes, knowledge and skills surrounding men's violence against women through poplular culture and media.
About 600 people attended the event, which featured performances on three stages by Cirque Productions. |
