During Full Court Press' remaining seven-month program term, FCP courageously decided to develop a counter promotion campaign against the tobacco industry's tobacco advertisements. To help offset the industry's advertising efforts, the Michael Bolchalk Marketing firm was contracted to create the counter promotion campaign. In partnership with local teens, the firm worked closely with students to develop the campaign theme as well as to test market the results. The selected results were hard-hitting ads depicting young adults smoking with a tagline stating, "Stalked by a Killer - Don't But the Lie" and "Fatal Attraction - Don't Buy the Lie." To launch the ads, a campaign kickoff was held at Park Place Mall and hosted by Donna Grande, former FCP Program Director and current Co-director of the American Medical Association's Smokeless States Program Office. During this day, over 6,000 youth and adult back-to-school shoppers got a first-hand view of the campaign's components. Today, the counter promotion ads can be seen on bus benches throughout
the City of Tucson. As well, radio ads can be heard on 93.7 KRQ and 92.1
KFMA, print ads can be seen in high schools and other youth publications,
and aerosol art murals depicting the campaign theme can be seen downtown
and at selected schools. In addition, a website highlighting the campaign
ads as well as new features is also available. |
