Media Release
For Immediate Release
July 24, 2002
The Cochise County Tourism Council (CCTC) was one of seven tourism professionals and organizations honored at the 2002 Governor’s Conference on Tourism on July 11 in Scottsdale. Donna Harris, CCTC Chair accepted the Governor’s Bootstrap Award for the group. The Bootstrap Award is presented to the individual or organization that has achieved significant success despite limited resources or finances.

The Council, a regional marketing organization dedicated to enhancing economic prosperity by promoting and developing tourism in Cochise County, is made up of representatives from Benson, Bisbee, Douglas, Sierra Vista, Tombstone, Willcox and Cochise County. The CCTC was the first organization of it kind in the State of Arizona and is the state’s successful model for other regional marketing organizations.

According to a recent countywide tourism study, tourism in Cochise County generated a total economic impact of $120 million and visitor spending resulted in over 3,600 jobs countywide in 2001.

Cochise County Board of Supervisors Chairman, Patrick Call, nominated the CCTC and praised the group’s efforts stating, "By pooling our scarce financial resources, the County and Cities receive a whole that is definitely more than the sum of its parts."
